MahouMaddie

So I posted in like, five of the cosplay groups I'm part of to get some interest in these interviews, since I'm currently unable to go to conventions (bills come first, folks), I cast out my net and I feel like I've gotten a pretty wonderful array of cosplayers that are just as passionate as I when it comes to spreading positivity and all these many different skill ranges. MahouMaddie has been cosplaying for about 6 years now, but her skill is absolutely amazing. I looked at her work and it's so amazing and breathtaking. I saw her work in progress photos for her Hannah Alexander Sailor Uranus (one of my dream cosplays) and it's just, so absolutely mind blowing. I can't wait to see the rest!

What are your social media(s)? Mahoumaddie @ instagram, Mahou Maddie Cosplay on facebook, and @mahoumaddie on twitter!

How long have you been cosplaying? Since 2013!

What got you into Cosplay? I heard about cosplay in high school and was always interested but was too afraid to give it a try. When I started college, our campus had a cosplay club that I ended up joining. The kind folks there introduced me properly to cosplay and how to get started, and I haven't looked back since!

Favourite Costume? Was it bought or made? It's a tie right now between Asirpa from Golden Kamuy and Nott from Critical Role! Both were made by me. Asirpa features many hours of hand embroidering and blood, sweat and tears to get it to all come together. Nott was a six month project that I kept adding details to because I wasn't ever satisfied with what I had. Both fandoms (GK and Critters) are absolutely lovely, so wearing those two costumes really makes me happy.

What are your goals as a cosplayer? I just like to create! I enjoy challenging myself by looking at a complex project and figuring out how I'm going to take something often represented in 2D and make it into a real, wearable piece. A lot of the time this isn't easy (I'm looking at you, anime physics) but getting there is half the fun.

Which Cosplayer inspired you to cosplay? There wasn't one that got me started, per se! However, I currently really look up to Cowbutt Crunchies Cosplay, Malindachan, and Ginny Di.

Dream Cosplay? Sakizo's Apprentice! I've been eyeing this design for years and have finally decided to start working on it towards the end of this year.

Favourite Skill of Cosplay? (Wig work, sewing, armor, etc) I'm a sewing enthusiast through and through! I enjoy patterning as well and the challenge it provides.
